When the kids get restless, take them to the 3.5-mile Lake Junaluska Walking Trail along the lakeshore. It offers excellent views of the mountains, and the trail is just next to the World Methodist Museum. Stop in to see paintings and artifacts that once belonged to John Wesley, the founder of Methodism.
The Waynesville Recreation Center, a great place to exercise, features an Olympic-size swimming pool, tennis court, outdoor track, and playground. All facilities are well maintained. Nearby, stop in at Queen's Farm Stables with your family for a horseriding session.
For a walk back in time, spend the day at Wheels Through Time Museum, especially if you're a motorcycle enthusiast. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and there's a military corner you shouldn't miss. Alternatively, to cool off, pick up daily and weekly swimming passes at the Lake Junaluska Recreation Hut, where the pool can also be reserved for private parties.
