Lake Ariel used to have a popular amusement park in the 19th and 20th c. But today the area is mainly beloved for its outdoor activities.
The nearby Pocono mountains have several spectacular waterfalls, such as the Bushkill and Raymondskill Falls. The area is beloved for camping and hiking in the summer, and becomes a cosy ski destination in winter.
Back down by the lakes, the Lacawac Sanctuary and the Claws 'N' Paws Wild Animal Sanctuary offer education programs and excursions that help children discover the many animal species hiding in nature. Finally, the Lake Equestrian Center shows the area from a different perspective – from horseback.
