Just 45km from the capital is the Neris Regional Park surrounding the Neris River, the villages, and the layers of history which have built up around it. The Neris is just one of the beautiful rivers around Vilnius, where you can kayak or just take a walk and a picnic on the banks of the river.
Winter in and around Vilnius brings the opportunity for skiing and snowboarding, the Liepkalnis ski resort being the closest to the capital (just 6km away). To see some of the age-old history of Lithuania, the town of Medininkai is just 33km away, boasting stunning highlands and a 14th-century brick castle.
